Twisted Fates

~DOROTHY'S POV~

Today, I met my fated Alpha mate. It wasn't planned and he definitely wasn't who I thought he would be.

Being a pure werewolf from the Blood Moon pack had its perks. My family was known to have a long line of pure-blooded werewolves and because of that, we were sought after by many prominent Alphas who needed a clean breed of new werewolves as children.

That was how I found myself pushed to date my best friend, Trevor, who also happened to be a Lycan prince and the sole heir to his father's throne.

It was easy to love Trevor, because of the fact that we basically grew up together even though he was a few years older than me. But as strong as my attraction to him was, there was still something missing.

I didn't feel the mate bond with Trevor. I also hadn't turned yet which was weird considering the fact that I just turned eighteen.

My inability to turn was the reason why my parents sent me to Ruswells College. There, I could study to be a doctor like I'd always wanted while also practising to be a proper werewolf.

The school's curriculum was flexible, offering provisions for both academic studies and werewolf training.

Ruswells College was a school for the elite. Most of the students here were sons and daughters of top Alphas of reputable packs and our tutors and instructors were also powerful Alphas from all around the world.

I'd hoped that by the time I finished my first year at Ruswells College, I would have not only found my mate but I would also be able to turn and become a stronger werewolf.

My relationship with Alpha Trevor was no secret. Almost everybody knew we were together and most of the girls were always green with jealousy whenever they saw us together.

Alpha Trevor was smoking hot. He had an athletic build and a face that looked like it was carved by angels. Girls constantly drooled over him. But he belonged to me alone.

I'd always looked forward to turning and feeling my mate bond with Alpha Trevor when the unexpected happened.

The day had begun like any other ordinary day. I'd gone to class and pretended to be interested in all the jargon that Professor Patty, our Medical Biochemistry tutor, spoke in class.

Of all the courses that I had to learn in my first year, that was the only one I detested.

After her class, I had my favorite class: Introduction to Turning and Shifting. Incidentally, my boyfriend, Trevor and I usually attended this class together but today, however, his seat was empty.

Trevor didn't need the class. I did. He was a finalist in Ruswells College and an expert shifter already. But he always accompanied me because he believed in me.

He'd jokingly told me that he wanted to be around when I finally turned. I took his word for it and let him be my training partner in the class even though others only saw this as a mere showoff.

I kept glancing every now and then at where he was supposed to be seated but I found no one there. Alpha Trevor never missed the class no matter how busy he was. Was something wrong with him? A twisting knot of anxiety tightened in my stomach as I thought about it.

But soon afterwards, I pushed the bad thoughts out of my mind and forced myself to focus in class.

We usually had a lecture with our instructor before we went out to the open field to put into practice everything we'd learned for the day.

One by one, all the people who started the class with me had gotten connected with their inner wolf and turned, except me and my best friend, Ava, who was an Omega.

Our tutor, Dr. Robbins soon walked in. He had his usual mean look in place. But today, he didn't walk in alone. He walked in with Alpha Trevor! Or at least, that was who I thought he was.

"Good morning, Class," He greeted.

We all chorused a "Good morning," right back at him.

"Before we proceed to today's lesson," He began. "I'd like to introduce a new tutor to everyone." He pointed to the newcomer. "This is Dr. Lucas Blackwood. He just transferred from Sunnyville and will be joining us for the rest of the semester."

There were some silent murmurings among the students. Dr. Robbins paused to allow the murmurings to die down.

"As most of you must have figured out already, Dr. Lucas Blackwood here is Alpha Trevor's twin brother." His eyes scanned through the classroom before he continued. "Like myself, he's a skilled shifter and will be of immense help to everyone here who is having trouble either turning or shifting."

I was lost in the moment. What the hell was he talking about? Alpha Trevor had no siblings. If he did, I would have been aware of it. So, why was this newcomer claiming to be his sibling?

There were so many unanswered questions in my mind. Was this one of Alpha Trevor's jokes? Was he pretending to be someone else to prank everyone?

I figured I had to talk to Dr. Blackwood. I had to find out who he was. I waited patiently until the lecture was over and we stepped into the open field.

Dr. Blackwood did not waste time to begin showing off his skills to the group of students that had been assigned to train under him.

I didn't make the list but I slipped in among the students in his group to watch him teach them.

"You have to picture whatever you want to shift into before you turn," Dr. Blackwood was saying. "Otherwise, your wolf will not obey you."

"Excuse me, sir," A student said, interrupting him.

"Yes?"

"What if you don't have a clear picture yet of who you want to turn into but you know how you want to look?"

Everyone's eyes turned from the student who'd asked the question and reverted to Dr. Blackwood.

He suppressed a frown, obviously not appreciating the interruption.

"Well, in that case, you won't shift until you figure the exact picture out."

The rest of the training went on smoothly. I waited for the training to be over before I riled up to Dr. Blackwood while he was making his way to the locker room to wash up.

He came to an abrupt stop when he sensed my presence and turned to face me, a slight frown on his face.

"Are you following me?"

"Y—-Yes," I stammered.

"Why?" He demanded.

"I just—I'm confused and I just want to—-"

Our eyes met and his scent hit my nostrils. Suddenly, the words got caught at the roof of my mouth and time froze.

As if in a trance, I felt myself moving without an effort. What's wrong with me? I wondered.

Dr. Blackwood seemed to be possessed too by whatever had taken over my body. He took two steps forward and filled the space between us.

Then, he leaned forward and kissed me. And at that moment, I felt my wolf come to life. Within a split second, my transformation took place with my lips still locked with Dr. Blackwood's.

As soon as we broke apart, I transformed back into my human form. I was mortified at what had just happened.

"What happened?" I asked breathlessly, the scales falling off my eyes.

Dr. Blackwood did not respond. He was looking at someone else behind me. I turned around and met the cold gaze of Alpha Trevor, my boyfriend and my blood turned to ice.
