Chapter 1

Doris’s POV

WELCOME TO THE ACADEMY OF THE GODS

My heart skipped a beat, it was like a bad dream, and even though I knew fully well how much of my reality was tied to this very moment, I just couldn’t believe that one day, a slave girl like me would attend this academy.

My parents attended it when they were my age, but after their tragic death, and the misfortune that befell me shortly after, my hopes of coming to this college were stripped away from me.

The car came to a halt, and unlike Aadam, the Alpha's son, who waited for his door to be opened by a guard, I didn’t, so I pushed the door open and gallantly walked out.

It was the most beautiful sight to behold, it was so wide that I couldn’t tell its ending from my standing spot.

I had a tote bag on my shoulders, containing a map of the wolf realm and a book to entertain myself against boredom. I was about to move further into the school compound when I felt my hands being yanked backward.

My heart skipped a beat, his eyes flared with anger, he pressed my jaw with his hard finger, as his eyes lowered down to my lips, lust flickered in them. His thumb swiped on my lower wet lips, I could hear this wolf growl. I knew he felt the mate bond, and it affected him as much as it affected me.

But I was an embarrassment to the royal family; he would never acknowledge the bond. His grip on my jaw tightened, and the bag I held fell to the floor as I tried to hold his fingers.

“Aadam—please” I begged, while fighting the pain.

“If by any chance anyone gets to know we are mated, I will kill you, do you get that!” His grip tightened and the tear rolled down my eyes.

“Yea—Yes!, Aadam you are hurting me” he shoved me down, my knees scraping on the concrete floor, causing a minor bruise. I knew better than to stay on the ground, so I lifted myself off the floor then dusted the stain on my skirt away.

Now all that was left on my body was the blood caused by the bruises, but the bruises itself had healed, and for a second it felt like I hadn’t just been bullied. All thanks to my insane healing abilities which no one knew about.

I took the bag from the floor, wrapped my hair in a bun, then proceeded to the academy floor.

“The Alpha wants you to have this, it’s your allowance for the month,” one of the guards said as he stepped in my way, I looked down at his hands, he held a little envelope.

I was about to say the words, ‘I don’t need it, mostly because it came from a man who was about to execute me yesterday he shouldn’t pay me for leaving the pack and embarrassing him before other rulers’ but I knew better now, I took the envelope and bowed my head in appreciation before walking ahead.

I had a new view of my life and one mission alone. No matter how much I tried to hide who I truly was, it would never work. For sixteen years I had been a slave in the waterbanes pack, after the tragic death of my parents, who were killed by their fellow Alphas out of sheer jealousy and fear of being overpowered.

My father was the last Lycan king, and my mother was the only female Alpha to have existed, they met in this very academy and they fell in love, I was their first offspring, then two years later Dewey was born, I was eight when they were killed, and I ran away with Dewey, who was only six years old.

Our legs were small and we could only cover less ground because we had no survival skills and our hearts were heavy. We were later caught, but Dewey ran back to the pack.

I was lucky because my masters didn’t know who I was, and for all they cared they had killed the entire Lucero lineage. All they knew was I was from the village they had just raided, and they tied me up in chains and sold me to the Waterbanes pack at eight.

I am twenty-four now, and yesterday the seer who was appointed to choose the goddess's presentation in the academy chose me as one of the presentations, which was bad because I planned to escape that day, but I was picked out of the crowd and forced to accept the Invitation.

When the ceremony was over, the king immediately ordered my execution. To him, I was an embarrassment to his pack, and I had brought shame to him among the rest of the Alpha, and I quote. ‘Women can not be Alpha, and such abomination would never happen in my pack!’

Aadam was my saving grace, he talked to his father and gave him reasons to free me, in hopes that I died in the academy and his father wouldn’t tagged by the goddess herself, that was why I came here today.

But my plan remained, after one year in this academy I would run away. I still had this feeling that Dewey was out there waiting for me, I had the map to all the cities in the realms and even if it takes me an entire lifetime to find him, I will do it.

A huge bell began to ring, and it pulled everyone’s attention to a lady standing on a higher ground. She had the spotlight on her, and the tall building happened to reflect her face; it was as though she was everywhere, yet she stood on a spot.

Dressed in a sharp pencil skirt, pointy ears, and red lips she was the prettiest lady I had seen today, I wondered what shifter she would be.

“I would like to welcome everyone from all around the realms, welcome to the Academy of the Gods,” she said as we all cheered.

“I know we are all tired, that is why I would like everyone to go in queues to the labels at the front, you would see the names of your realm, and I would like you to stand before it, so you can all be taken to your various dorms,” she said.

“For every shifter, one dorm is assigned to them, three shifters in a room, in this way, you could socialize and meet new people”

I was overly excited, and as the crowd began to move, I followed them. We were to stand before a banner, and as I watched from where I stood, I could see a banner that clearly stated, “WOLF REALM”

Overjoyed, I ran towards the banner, a giant stood beside it, he had a frown on his face as he saw me run towards it.

“Can’t you read young lady, this is for Wolves Alphas, go over there to other females oriented shifters” he said.

My ego was punctured.

“I am an Alpha, and yes I can read, so move away! I belong here!” I said authoritatively, I might be malnourished but I was smart,and I knew well enough that I belonged there, no one was going to make me feel stupid.

“She’s right,” a voice said behind me, and the moment I turned.

It felt as though my heart stopped, and my wolf muttered a dreadful word.

“Mate…”

His rare blue eyes clicked with mine, and it glowed, and so did mine.

That was impossible, I can’t. We can’t, I am mated to someone else.

“What!?” Aadam said in disbelief he was standing beside the strange man all along, I narrowed my eyes at him then back to the man before me.

He had white hair, blue eyes, a tall frame, and a dreadful demeanor, and for obvious reasons, he was an Alpha just like me, the realization had me in a haze of confusion as my hands perspired.

“It’s impossible,” Aadam said again, this time a little bit too loud, then he shoved the man before me, it wasn’t what I had expected, but right before me, I saw Aadam punch him in the face, and the white-haired man did the same, in a split second they were exchanging blows.

“Stop!, stop!” I yelled.

The guards ran after them, and their effort to separate them was futile, Aadam was pinned to the tied floor with the foreign man on top of him, their wolves threatening to come out in the open.

“What is going on here?” The lady who had spoken earlier said as she surveyed them, Aadam broke free from their grip then he walked over to the banner that was meant to hold the Alpha shifter.

“Nothing, it’s just a misunderstanding, ma’am, pardon our mishap,” the white-haired man said, his voice was calm and soothing, like a charm, the lady who was once addressing the crowd nodded like she was compelled by him.

“Fine, get to the section over there.”

His eyes narrowed at me, my body trembled as the bond ignited flames in my heart, I walked over to the space left for Alpha, standing between both boys who were occasionally glaring at each other, I felt heated up.

While I waited for other shifters to be called, I realized that we were the only wolves to be present. Which meant we would be in the same dorm.

It was obviously a prank, I can’t be the only one with two Alpha! Maybe others were late, I thought to myself, but I was just in denial because I knew anyone who wasn’t here would be disqualified.

As they called other shifters to their dorm it was finally time for the wolf shifters.

The lady called out our names.

“Alpha Farhan of the gold crown pack” The white-haired man walked out, he was handed a key.

“Alpha Aadam of the water banes pack” Aadam walked out of the podium he was handed a key, then he walked out, he narrowed his eyes back at me, flames of anger flickered in them.

“Alpha Doris ” I took to my feet, the man hesitated to give me my keys, so I dragged it from his hands as I walked out then into the long hall.
